World Rugby’s exclusive US broadcast partner, NBC Sports Group, have confirmed an exciting broadcast coverage schedule for the highly anticipated Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 which takes place in San Francisco from 20-22 July.
The competition, which features the top 24 men’s and 16 women’s teams in the world, will be played in the iconic AT&T Park in San Francisco’s Bay Area. With a new innovative tournament format, every match counts for both men’s and women’s teams who have to win every match in order to be crowned World Cup winners. Spectators can expect three days of exhilarating rugby action.
NBC Sports will present live coverage of all matches of the men’s and women’s tournament. NBC’s broadcast commentary team features an exciting mix of former rugby stars, including US Olympian Nate Ebner, former USA Sevens captain Brian Hightower, US Rugby Hall of Famer Dan Lyle, former England international Alex Corbisiero and World Rugby Hall of Fame inductee Phaidra Knight.
World Rugby Chairman Bill Beaumont said: “NBC will be the destination for rugby in the USA, showcasing over 30 hours of rugby action live from the iconic AT&T Park this July.
“With just over two weeks to go until the start of the Rugby World Cup Sevens, excitement is building as final preparations are put in place for what will be a spectacular tournament.”
Last year, World Rugby and NBC Sports Group announced details of an unprecedented seven-year partnership for exclusive rights to present the world’s biggest international rugby events. The exclusive rights feature the world’s most prestigious 15s and sevens events, including Rugby World Cup 2019 and 2023, Women’s Rugby World Cup 2017 and 2021, Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 and 2022 and the annual World Rugby U20 Championship from 2017-23.
