This follows a hugely successful partnership for RWC 2019, where more than £2m was pledged by rugby fans around the globe, and the current partnership for Rugby World Cup 2021 in New Zealand.

These partnerships have given more than 55,000 children from disadvantaged communities across the world the opportunity to play, learn and lead through ChildFund's partnerships.

Funds raised through the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022 partnership will be used to support ChildFund Rugby partnerships across Africa to grow rugby for development work, including initiatives linked to rugby’s values and gender equality.

Visit the ChildFund Rugby website www.childfundrugby.org for more details.

CHILDFUND - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who is ChildFund?
The ChildFund Alliance is a global network of 12 child-focused development organisations that helps nearly 23 million children and their families in 70 countries. ChildFund works to end violence and exploitation against children and to overcome poverty and the underlying conditions that prevent children from achieving their full potential. We work in partnership with children and their communities to create lasting change, and the participation of children themselves is a key component of our approach.

In addition to strengthening education, healthcare, and child protection for young people, ChildFund also seeks to support learning for children and youth through its sport for development initiatives, including the Pass It Back and Reconnect curricula, which deliver evidenced rugby and social impact outcomes.

What is ChildFund Rugby?
Using integrated rugby and life skills learning, young people from vulnerable communities are equipped to overcome challenges, inspire positive social change, and take active leadership roles within their communities.

All ChildFund Rugby partnerships contribute to achieving gender equality, reducing inequality, and ending violence against children, reflecting targets within the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Participants also develop critical social and emotional skills which help them to achieve personal goals, build empathy, manage emotions, develop positive relationships and make responsible decisions.

ChildFund is recognised as a Pioneer Organisation within the International Safeguards for Children in Sport, which ensure that children are physically and emotionally safe across sport.

Why is World Rugby partnering with ChildFund for Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022?
Linked to its strategic vision of a global sport for all, true to its values,  World Rugby recognises the important role rugby has in fostering societal development. The organisation has a proud history of leveraging the global reach of its showcase tournament, Rugby World Cup, to engage fans and support programmes which use rugby as a tool for development and positive social change.

World Rugby and ChildFund are committed to ensuring that Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022 leaves a lasting legacy in South Africa and beyond – to promote and develop the game of rugby in the region, and to provide vulnerable children and young people with opportunities to learn skills to overcome challenges and be active leaders in their communities.
