Tickets to go on sale December 16
The Sevens broke records with attendances of 50,000 on both days for the IRB Sevens World Series opener last month

Tickets for Rugby World Cup Sevens 2009 in Dubai will go on general sale on Tuesday, 16 December.

The global showpiece tournament will see 24 men's and, for the first time, 16 women's teams battling it out to be crowned world champions at The Sevens venue from 5-7 March.

"After the resounding success of last month's Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens, which drew world record-breaking capacity crowds of 50,000 each day, anticipation is high that the global Rugby community will unite again in March for an irresistible feast of international Rugby Sevens at its breath-taking best and a unique carnival atmosphere at the wonderful venue," said Rugby World Cup Sevens Tournament Director Beth Coalter.

"With three months to go until kick off, Dubai 2009 is on track to be the best Rugby World Cup Sevens tournament to date. Everything is in place to deliver a world class tournament and I am sure that the 40 teams and the thousands of travelling fans from all over the world will experience an event to savour."

Rugby World Cup Sevens 2009 is shaping up to be extremely competitive. The opening rounds of the grand prix style IRB Sevens World Series, held in Dubai and George, suggest that the 2008/09 Series will be closely fought with Kenya, Portugal and USA announcing themselves as genuine contenders alongside the likes of South Africa, New Zealand, England, Fiji, Argentina and Samoa.

The women's competition promises to be no less competitive with the global qualification process providing more than its fair share of surprises with Thailand upsetting one of the tournament favourites Kazakhstan to qualify from Asia and Brazil's women defeating Argentina to become the first qualifiers for the prestigious tournament.

Gary Chapman, President Group Services and Dnata, Emirates Group, believes that the involvement of 40 teams across the two pitches will enhance the enjoyment of a tournament that is already shaping up to break records.

"The Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens really was an unqualified success in so many respects and we have been receiving such positive feedback from all those who experienced an immensely exciting weekend of sporting action."

"The best part is that there is more to look forward to. In just three months time we will all head back to the same wonderful venue to witness even more fantastic Sevens action, as the world's most talented men's and women's teams battle it out at the Rugby World Cup Sevens from March 5-7."

Tickets will be available through the official tournament website: www.rwcsevens.com.

They will also be on sale at the Dnata Travel Centre on Sheikh Zayed Road, at Costa outlets (Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Mall, Al Wahda Mall Abu Dhabi) and MMI outlets (Al Wasl Road, Ibn Battuta Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Sheikh Zayed Road).

The cost of tickets are: Thursday, 5 March 2009: Dhs 50; Friday, 6 March 2009: Dhs 200; Saturday, 7 March 2009: Dhs 300 or season tickets for all three days are available for Dhs 450.
